I sat down as usual on Saturday morning to do some “Creative” reading. I had recently been given a copy of “Lingo” by Jeffrey Shaw and thought I would give it a glance.

As I am always a student to of creativity, I was excited to see what Jeffrey had to say. I had allotted about one hour to read. Four hours later, I reluctantly put the book down and forced myself to get on to the other chores of the day. I had spent the better part of my day reading Lingo.

This book related perfectly to the 2 worlds I play in. One where I help clients find their own lingo to attract companies that get them, and the other were great companies clearly define their lingo to attract great customers.

Jeffrey demystifies the process of learning the lingo of your customers. He tells great stories to help send the point home. “The days of avatars, buyer personas, and demographics are gone… they (the customer) do not want to be targeted: they want to be compelled.”

I love that it is part business book and part self-help book. It works to help us align ourselves and our businesses.

From the moment, I started reading I knew that Jeffrey got me. He understood the lingo to have a dialogue with me. This makes him a credible guide to walk you through his process of uncovering the lingo for your customer. I highly recommend, but be warned, it might ruin your Saturday.

Check it out here if you want to improve your LINGO and Communication with your customers or potential partnerships.
